A beautiful sunny day proved a good omen for yellow House, Clarke, as they took out top honours for the second consecutive year at our Junior School House Athletics Carnival. Bass House came in second, McHaffie was third and Sambell finished the day in fourth place.
Prep and Year 1 students enthusiastically participated in a half day program of fun events including sprinting, discus, a sack race relay, mini-hurdles and rainbow tail throwing. Year 2-4 students did their best at every running event from 100m right through to 1500m as well as a full program of field events.
Perfect conditions produced many outstanding performances and 10 new school records were set;
U8 Boys: Shot Put – Daniel Patch 13.8m, Long Jump – Harvey Strachan 2.87m.
U9 Boys: Long Jump – James O’Neill 3.18m, High Jump – Nathan Patch 1.15m.
U10 Girls: 1500m – Lara Smyth 6.39min, Lon Jump – Lily Debono 3.04m, 100m – Sophia Hungerford 16.55sec, Shot Put – Lily Debono 6.72m
U10 Boys: Shot Put – Yianni Caffieri 7.89m, Long Jump – Lucas Allen 3.34m.
In the final event of the day, Mr Gale, Mrs Middleton, Mr Frederick and Mrs Jackson claimed victory in the annual teachers vs students relay.
Junior School Clarke Captains Nathan Patch and Sophia Hungerford accepted the winning shield on behalf of their team mates at a special assembly. They congratulated all students for trying their best, and thanked their PE teacher Ms Marcelle Krieg, Mr Arceo, the Year 9 leaders and all of the parent volunteers for contributing to a great day.
Twenty-four young college athletes will compete at the District Athletics Carnival on Friday 28 April.
