Young Women in Science
Thursday, 1 March 2018

On Friday 9 February, five students from Newhaven college attended the “Women’s Meet a Scientist Day” at Government House. When we arrived we were officially welcomed by the Honourable Linda Dessau who is the current Governor of Victoria.

The day entailed listening to six women talking about their careers in the STEM industry at the Royal Women’s Hospital. One of these women was Dr Louise Owen who spoke to us about her research in neonatal care, which is the care of infants. We also had two current PhD students speak to us about their journey from VCE to their PhD, which was very interesting and informative.

After the presentation we had the opportunity to meet the Governor of Victoria. We spoke about the presentation and she was very happy to see that we enjoyed it so much. Afterwards we had lunch which was served in the gardens.

We all thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and will not forget it quickly.
