Performing Arts

Newhaven College places a strong emphasis on performing and visual arts, with strong representation across the curriculum in terms of subjects and also through exhibitions, drama productions and musical performances.

The College provides strong outlets for performance and drama. From Inter-House and Inter-School activities including dance, drama and public speaking right through to the annual school production, a variety of opportunities exists for each student to express themselves.

Auditions for the school production present the students with different performance challenges and opportunities. Students are involved across the board assisting with marketing, set design and construction, lighting, ushering, program sales, make-up, back stage tasks and performing in the live orchestra.

For three days each year, students at Newhaven College have the opportunity to participate in the annual Music Camp where their musical and collaborative skills are challenged. Guest voice and instrumental specialists join the dedicated music staff and parent helpers to coax the very best from the group. Motivation is high and enthusiasm abounds as our students approach large new repertoires of music, with the intensity of music tutorials interspersed with outdoor adventure activities.

The College regularly hosts Soirees that serve the dual purpose of showcasing excellence and providing students with vital performing experience.

Students may participate and represent their school as a member in the following musical groups which perform at assemblies and community events:
  • Senior Concert Band
  • Junior Concert Band
  • Stage Band
  • Senior Choir
  • Junior Choir
  • Production Band
  • Jazz Ensemble
  • String Ensemble
