Year 9 can often be a time of dislocation and disengagement for students. Accordingly, our Year 9 Program is therefore exciting, relevant, challenging and stimulating.
Our separate Year 9 Environmental Centre is located on a magnificent 82 acre property commanding spectacular views across Westernport Bay, only 10 minutes from Newhaven. Year 9 students attend the Environmental Centre for a full year and their program is tailored to meet the needs of 14 and 15 year olds. Subjects are not taught in isolation, and aspects of the program can be negotiated between students and teachers.
The underlying objective of the Year 9 Program is to build within each student a strong sense of self and sense of community. This is especially evident in the students’ IDEAS, Act Now and Arts Fest projects, the two weeks spent at City Cite within Melbourne’s CBD and in meeting the challenges presented at the Wollangarra Camp in the mountains of Central Gippsland. The Centre itself is an award winning, environmentally smart building with many sustainable features, together with classrooms looking out across Westernport Bay.
Although at a separate Campus, Year 9 student continue their participation at College Assemblies and Chapel Services, House Meetings, House Competitions and also maintain their representation at GIS level in their chosen sport or activity.
