Year 9 students undertake a comprehensive program of English, Mathematics, Science and Japanese which strengthens the foundations needed for every student. These subjects are supplemented by additional studies specifically designed for the adolescents in our care:
- IDEAS (Inter-Disciplinary Exploration of All Subjects) – students undertake major thematic projects and relate directly to the environment.
- Mind, Body, Soul – students participate in regular physical activity and life skills workshops.
- Community Project and Personal Focus – Students complete a two-stage project which links them to their immediate or broader community and can choose subject material from Media, Performing Arts, Art, Catering or Technology.
There is also a strong element of experiencing environments outside of school. A two-week immersion at the City Cite facility on Flinders Street, Melbourne allows students to immerse themselves in excursions, negotiating public transport, creating City Trails and reflecting on their experiences. Each student also attends a five day Outdoor Education experience at Wollangarra where the aim is to strengthen relationships amongst their peers in a positive and supportive manner.
Year 9 students also participate in a community arts and music program, and exhibit their work to the wider school community.
