Outstanding results by students stem from the talents, tenacity and perseverance the students bring to their own learning and the level of dedication and innovation by teachers. The unique Newhaven College ‘Making Thinking Visible’ program is at the centre of curriculum development - seeking to build the higher order thinking skills which at VCE level are the major discriminator.

VCE students at Newhaven College are supported in a variety of ways as they face the challenges of senior schooling. The strong pastoral care system continues to support them in House meetings and activities, and additional support is provided both in terms of making subject choices that will create strong pathways for the future. Careers counselling provides assistance in planning for further study or entering the workforce, both in group and individual sessions as each student’s secondary education draws to a close. The academic program is tailored to make the demands of VCE study as manageable and practical as possible. Students participate in early commencement which maximises preparation and homework time, and lengthens the all-important revision period prior to examinations.
