Pastoral care at Newhaven College is founded upon our core values: respect, excellence, honesty, empathy and responsibility. Each student is recognised as an individual, being supportively guided throughout their education.
Students join one of four Houses and are actively supported by their head of House and House Tutors who take responsibility for the wellbeing of individual students in their care. Students meet with their Tutors twice daily in small groups, and participate in a myriad of House activities which build friendships, confidence and self-esteem as students participate. The overarching aim of all House events is to develop a strong sense of community within the House where students and staff care for one another and work together for the benefit of all. Close liaison with parents is encouraged and pursued in order to establish a strong partnership between the College and home.
The College also caters to a range of individual needs of students in the areas of academic achievement, behaviour and emotional wellbeing. Counselling, psychological and educational testing is offered, and is paired with programs that can best assist students in their learning.
