Fourteen excited girls accompanied by teachers Larry Weatherford and Makiko Hakoda from Ibaraki Christian Junior High School in Japan commenced their two week visit to Newhaven College on Monday 25 July.
A highlight of the annual school calendar, each students stays with a College host family to experience Australian family life. The students attend a variety of classes during their stay and enjoy visiting local attractions. This year’s itinerary includes The Antarctic journey at Nobbies, Churchill Island, the Penguin Parade, Koala Conservation Centre and A Maze’N Things.
The girls’ first impressions of Newhaven College and the local area is that is it “big!” It is summer in Ibaraki, so after leaving behind 30 degree daytime temperatures they have also been struck by the “cold”, but all of the “green” and “many cows” is delighting them. They are excited about our “nature, new friends, and…everything!”
With Japanese being the main language taught at Newhaven, College students are also looking forward to welcoming our visitors to their Japanese classes to test their language skills.
