Equestrian Team Jumps into 2018
Thursday, 1 March 2018

The Newhaven College Equestrian Team started the year off with a big team of ten riders who competed at the 2018 Summer Interschool Show Jumping Championships.

This is a very prestigious event on the school equestrian calender and is a qualifier for a number of bigger events later in the year, so an astounding 300 horse and rider combinations took part with class sizes of up to 50 competitors.

We have a strong contingent of young junior riders on the way up:

  • We welcomed Tom Brereton to his first interschool show jumping competition.
  • Jaelina Kiley entered two ponies in the Primary Freshmans class and, riding Jasper, they won both the Two phase and the Grand Prix in the Primary Freshman class to claim the championship.
  • Zoe Reiter overcame some pretty big obstacles to enjoy four clean rounds of jumping in the Encourage Class.
  • Sarah Eldridge took her brand new pony, Preston, out for his first big interschool competition.
  • Fleur Timmins had her new mount Eclipse enjoyed a great day of show jumping riding three beautiful rounds to qualify for the Grand Prix. Unfortunately, they knocked a couple of rails and missed out on the final.
  • Imogen Price rode beautifully in the Improvers Class but one or two little errors early in the day meant they were unable to progress to the final.
  • Boyd West enjoyed a terrific day, and while making the Grand Prix final, he unfortunately pulled a sneaky rail to finish out of the placings.
