Congratulations to the four members of our Equestrian Team who represented Newhaven College at the Victorian Equestrian Interschool Series Grand Final in Show Jumping held at the National Equestrian Centre in Werribee.
Jaelina Kiley in Year 6 rode two horses, Jasper and Stormy, in the Level 1 Primary Freshmans event and posted a first and second place on each mount in the Two-phase. On to the Grand Prix section where two clear rounds were needed to make the final. Jaelina achieved this on both horses, placing first and second again, and was announced both Champion and Reserve Champion in her section, an outstanding achievement!
Year 9 student Boyd West also rode two horses, Sir Hoaks and Crystal Bauhina, in the Level 4 Progressive event and was skillful enough to place 7th from a big field of 31 riders in the Two-phase section. In the Grand Prix Boyd placed 5th and 9th and finished 5th overall for the day.
Sianan Price (Year 12) and Anna Scott (Year 9) also competed in the Level 4 Progressive section. Sianan and her horse Island Lass posted a terrific time, but a run out at the second element of a double fence put them out of the placings. Anna, riding Lals Haven Rhonda, rode lovely rounds but a couple of knocked rails ended their chances of a place.
The combination of Boyd and Jaelina’s high placings were enough to put Newhaven College into third place for the day.
With over 50 schools represented from across the state, this was the best result to date for for Newhaven College and an outstanding achievement from our young equestrians.
