Year 12 Day of Celebration - we had a wonderful day of celebrations to mark the completion of secondary school for our Year 12 students. Although the program had to be adapted to suit the Covid19 protocols, it still incorporated the key elements of a traditional Newhaven College final day.
The morning began with a Year 12 breakfast; a social event shared by Year 12 students and staff. This was followed by the House farewell meetings with students and staff speaking about each student in a fond farewell. These speeches are written and delivered from the heart and really highlight the connection that students have developed with their House during their schooling.
This year the Year 12 Presentation Assembly was held in the Amphitheatre. The prize winners were awarded and each student received their Valedictory Certificate.
Congratulations to our major award winners;
- Sam Taylor received the highly regarded Principal’s Prize.
- Mia Stratmann received the prestigious Papworth Prize
- Faith Hollyoak who was awarded the ADF Long Tan Leadership Award.
- The ADF is now sponsoring a new award; the Australian Defence Force Future Innovators Award which recognises the recipient’s abilities in science and mathematics. The inaugural recipient of this new award was Cailen Lone.
At the completion of the assembly the Year 12 students made their way to the lawn area where they were joined (at a safe distance) by the whole school who came out to witness the traditional ‘release of 50 white doves’; a spectacular highlight of the celebrations. Group photos were then held on the Senior School lawn followed by a celebration luncheon in the gym.
