On Tuesday 18 October we had a wonderful celebration for our Year 12s as we farewelled them on their last day of classes. It was the first time since 2019 we were able to conduct this important occasion in person.
The day started with breakfast in the Amphitheatre for all staff and the Year 12s. Stories and pictures were exchanged as staff recalled having them in their early years at Newhaven – how the time has flown!
Each Year 12 was then farewelled individually in their House groups. For many this is the most moving part of the day as those closest to each graduate, often a sibling, give a personal tribute.
From there the Year 12s gathered in the gymnasium with their parents and family members and all students from Years 5 to 11 for the Presentation Assembly. This assembly formally recognizes the efforts of the Year 12s throughout their time at the College. Congratulations to all of our prize recipients especially our Principal Prize winner, Nick Thomas, and our Papworth Prize winner, Jasmine Sullivan. Following the assembly was the ceremonial release of 51 doves – representing the 51 students who first graduated from the College.
That evening all Year 12s along with their parents and staff enjoyed a valedictory dinner at Silverwater Resort. The day was a fitting farewell for the class of 2022.
Congratulations to all of our departing Year 12s and we wish them all the best for their exams.
