Newhaven College recently hosted a Days for Girls (DFG) workshop where enthusiastic Year 11 textiles students used their sewing skills to support this wonderful non profit organization that is run by volunteers throughout the world.
DFG teams make sanitary hygiene kits to give to girls in undeveloped countries. Having these simple sanitary kits enables girls to attend school and continue their education during menstruation, thus empowering them to break the poverty cycle and give them their dignity.
Each DFG kit consists of a cotton bag, two shields, eight liners, two bikini briefs, a face washer, soap and two zip lock bags.
The Rotary Club of Phillip Island and San Remo have for the past four years donated money to support DFG locally on Phillip Island. A local team of generous volunteers is led by Vicki Dingley, and they donate their time to produce the sanitary hygiene kits.
Days for Girls meets the first Tuesday of every month in Cowes from 10am to 3pm and all are welcome.
