Vocational Education and Training (VET) allows students to complete nationally recognised training as part of their VCE. VET develops industry specific knowledge and skills as well as practical skills required for employment and further education. Research from The National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) indicates that the number of school students undertaking vocational education and training (VET) is increasing each year.
Newhaven College is fortunate to offer the 22614VIC Certificate II Building and Construction Pre-apprenticeship. This two-year qualification equips students with skills and knowledge to prepare them for a career in design, architecture, construction and carpentry. Students will also gain the skills and expertise to enable them to transition into an apprenticeship within the building industry, if desired.
The course provides students with an opportunity to complete a nationally recognised vocational qualification, where classroom learning is combined with hands-on training. Work placement can allow students to develop skills in an industry environment, enhancing their employability skills, prior to seeking an apprenticeship. Throughout the entire course, an emphasis on safety, communication and teamwork is integral to the learning and training process. All Units of Competency include both practical and theoretical studies and a number of these can be accredited toward a future apprenticeship. Our students continue to benefit from the excellent facilities and small class sizes that allow for one-on-one student / teacher learning.
