Farewell Year 12s

As you will see in the pages of this newsletter this week we farewelled our Year 12s. Finishing school is an important stage in a young person’s life as they move into adulthood. It is also a significant day for their parents and it was wonderful to have them attend our valedictory day on Tuesday with their children.

I am very proud of the way our Year 12s finished their schooling and the celebrations that were part of that. From the moving House farewells where each student was recognised individually, through to the prize giving assembly, the ceremonial releasing of the doves and the Valedictory dinner at Silverwater Resort, and lots of other smaller but no less significant occasions, it was a memorable way to finish their school days. As a year level they have been exceptional in the way they have conducted themselves for their entire journey at our school.

In sending them on to the next stage of their life journey we want to encourage our graduates to make the most of the opportunities that await them in life. As I said in my Valedictory address to the Year 12s:

“The reason many people do not live a fulfilled life is fear. Fear of failure. Fear of the unknown. But fear is only a feeling. It cannot hold you back. Fear of failure is so often an impediment to a fulfilled life… But it is actually essential to living a fulfilled life. Be willing to fail in order to succeed. Those who fail the most often succeed the most. Why? They try, they get better, they improve. They develop resilience. They have a crack. Put your full trust in yourself.

I like the analogy of a bird sitting on a branch in a tree. Something we see everyday. The bird is never afraid of the branch breaking. Why? Because the bird’s trust is not on the branch. The bird’s trust is in it’s wings.

Always believe in yourself. Trust your wings.”

I would like to congratulate our 2024 graduating class and wish them the best of luck for their upcoming exams.
