Our Annual Bands Night, to be held on Monday 14 October, is a highlight of the music calendar. The night provides our student bands to perform in a professional venue, The Westernport Hotel. The evening will feature bands from Year 7 right through to our Year 12 bands. With one last performance from The Dropkicks before we dropkick them out of here.
On Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 October we will be holding our Spring Soirees in the Performance Arts Centre. The evenings will feature students from across all year levels on a variety of instruments and voice. Many students enrolled in the Individual Music Tuition Program (IMT) have been worked towards these soirees throughout the year and are very much looking forward to performing to a warm and receptive audience. If your child isn't currently learning music through the IMT and they would like to perform, they are most welcome. Please contact music.newhavencol.vic.edu.au to register your child's interest.
On Monday 11 November our Year 5-6 Band classes alongside our Intermediate Concert Band will be presenting a short showcase from 3:30 - 4:15 followed by a BBQ outside the Middle School. This will be a great opportunity to hear what the Y5-6s have been up to for the year and a chance to catch up with their teachers. We will also provide pathways information on music moving forward. This will include information in the Individual Music Tuition Program (IMT) and options for continuing with instrumental studies.
Our AMEB examinations have been confirmed for November 28 - December 2. For those who've registered, Belinda Manning will be in contact soon with your exam date and time.

This year we took our Spring Concert to a new venue and split it in half. Only a few minor changes for the biggest even on the College music calendar! Our Junior Spring Concert - Young Maestros was held at Berninneit in Cowes on Tuesday 3 September and Virtuoso Vibes the following evening. The Young Maestros concert featured students from Year 2 through to Year 8. There was a full house, and the audience was very supportive of all performances. Although we might have already outgrown the venue, it really is a beautiful space to perform music in and the backstage areas are superb for school events.
Our
Virtuoso Vibes Concert featured choirs and ensembles from Year 8 through to
Year 12. Our Intermediate Concert Band was the only ensemble featured in both concerts
and they did an excellent job. With their performance of 'Worksite' a
standout. Congratulation to Junior Guitar Ensemble, Combined Spring
Orchestra, Year 3 Strings, Year 4 Strings, Year 5 and 6 Concert Bands,
Intermediate Concert Band, Junior School Choir.
Congratulations
to our hosts for the evening. Middle School Music Captains, Hamish Dakers-Hock
and Georgia Sanders alongside our Junior School Captains, Leith, Chloe, Edward,
and Eden. They did a magnificent job introducing each of the ensembles and
choirs. Our Senior Concert - Virtuoso Vibes was hosted wonderfully by Senior
school Music Captains Liam and Jasmine.
There
were many highlights across both concerts ad this is a credit to the dedication
of all students and staff. Students have been attending weekly rehearsals all
year in addition to the many things going on both in school and at home. This
level of dedication is what helps make the music better and better each year.
There were so many smiling faces and as students walked of stage proud of their
achievements. We're proud of you, too!
Thank
you to our wonderful staff. Firstly, to our music teachers who put so
much time into choosing music that is both suitable for our students and
engaging for the audience. The dedication and passion they have for making
music with their students is outstanding. Behind the scenes, there are many
staff across all three school who help keep things calm backstage. Thank you
for your time and efforts.
There
were some teething issues holding the concerts at a new venue. Thank you to
those who provided feedback to the Music Department. We are always looking to
improve, and your idea and kind thoughts are always much appreciated.
Thank
you to parents and guardians for their continued support of music at the
College. There are many benefits to learning and instrument and singing such as
enhancing cognitive skills, boost emotional welling, improve time management
and discipline, increase creativity, and foster social connections, but most of
all, it's an amazing fun thing to do!
If
you missed the concerts or would like to relive the special moments, concerts
were videoed and are available here.

Our 1st and 2nd Year VET Music students put together two, back-to-back evenings of high-quality performances last week in our Black Box Theatre, featuring nine different bands and vocal performances that involved students from Years 8 to 12. The quality of musicianship was exceptionally high and we congratulate all our students and their teachers on producing such engaging and professional performance levels.
On Monday 16 September our VCE Contemporary Music students performed the examination program to a supportive audience of parents, friends and staff. Congratulations and best wishes to Angeline Anthony, Liam Fuery, Dean Lyle, Gabe Di Falco, Callan Spencer, Leela Tran and Jasmine Turton. Each student is required to perform 20 minutes of music in a range of styles and demonstrate a high level of technical ability on their instrument or voice.
Newhaven College's Senior and Junior dance teams recently travelled to Beaconhills College Berwick to showcase their incredible talent at the SEISA Dance event. Both teams delivered outstanding performances, representing our school with pride and enthusiasm. Congratulations to all the dancers for their hard work and dedication!
Likewise, our small but motivated group of students threw themselves into the Theatresports activity. Theatresports intermediate team won their section and the overall day with the most points.
The creativity and enthusiasm of our team was incredible.
