Newhaven College put on a dominant display as hosts of the SEISA Surfing Carnival, held at Smiths Beach. Our talented 12 surfer squad delivered a flawless performance. The team went undefeated through the heat phase of the competition, successfully earning Newhaven a spot in every final category. That momentum carried right into the championship rounds, with Newhaven capturing victory in all six finals.
Congratulations to our individual champions who took out first place in their respective divisions: Tijian Coldora, Lulu van der Walt, Ryan McKenzie, Josie Richer, Tavish Mahon and Savannah Bennett.
Newhaven College remains undefeated in SEISA Surfing. Winning the overall schools trophy by a margin of 111 points between 1st and 2nd .
An honourable mention to Year 7 student Amelia Mahon, who stepped up to compete in the Senior Category against Year 11 and 12 students. In an incredible display of skill and determination, Amelia earnt a second place result in the Senior Female Final behind fellow Newhaven student Savannah Bennett.
It was an unforgettable day of competition that highlighted the incredible depth and spirit of Newhaven College's surfing program.

On Monday 18 May, Charlie Chasmore (Y7), Fraser Oliver (Y8), Thomas Simon (Y8), Bryn Chandler (Y10), Harry Bentley (Y11) and Kai Cashman (Y11) represented Newhaven College at the annual SEISA Golf Tournament held at Warragul Country Club.
The boys had a great day out, with some very consistent golf being played. Harry Bentley came in third overall in the Single Men's category and Newhaven College took out the Team Category, earning them entry at the SSAV Tournament (State Comp) at Lonsdale Links on Monday 25 May.
Again, the boys all played in a fantastic spirit and represented their school with pride, competing alongside some of Australia's top junior golfers. Congratulations to Charlie, Fraser, Thomas, Harry and Kai for progressing through to the State level competition. A fantastic effort!

Wednesday 13 May was a fantastic day of running and House spirit as students across the Middle School and Junior School participated in our 2026 House Cross Country Carnival. The morning began with our Year 5 and 6 students taking on the course, before our Prep to Year 4 students enjoyed their races in the afternoon.
It was wonderful to see so many students challenge themselves, encourage others and proudly represent their House teams throughout the day. A huge thank you to all staff, parent helpers and Year 8 and Year 11 students who assisted with marshalling, timing, recording and supporting students around the course. On Friday, 15 May, our Year 5/6 students travelled to Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve for the District AFL and Netball competition day. With the sun shining and a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day, students represented Newhaven College with outstanding sportsmanship and teamwork.
Our girls entered three netball teams, all of whom enjoyed success across the day, recording several wins against strong opposition, including St Joseph’s, Wonthaggi North, Wonthaggi, Cowes, San Remo, Newhaven Primary and Bass Valley Primary Schools. Congratulations to our Girls A Team, who have progressed through to the Division stage at the end of this term, a fantastic achievement!
The Boys AFL A Team also had an exceptional day, winning all three of their matches convincingly in their pool and progressing through to the next stage of competition. Their results included:

A huge thank you must go to our wonderful Middle and Senior School students who umpired throughout the day and represented the College so professionally.
Thank you also to all coaches and helpers who gave up their time to support our students: Noah Martin-Endress, Jesse, Aisha, Liv, Ellie and Millie, as well as parent volunteer Luci Mannix. Your enthusiasm and encouragement helped make the day such a success.
