On Wednesday 22 April, the Newhaven College community came together to commemorate ANZAC Day. Senior, Middle, and Junior School Captains each took part in key ceremonial roles, contributing to the solemnity of the occasion. Proceedings were hosted by our College Captains and our Year 9 Teacher, and Army Reserve member, Ryan Gingell spoke to all assembled. The College Vocal Group performed 'In Flanders Fields' by Craig Tibbitts, based on the poem by John McCrae, along with the national anthems of Australia and New Zealand, adding a moving musical element to the service. This commemorative event offered the entire school an opportunity to unite in reflection and gratitude for the sacrifices made by those who serve or have served.
On ANZAC Day itself, Newhaven College students to paid tribute at ANZAC Day ceremonies across Bass Coast. Newhaven College Captains Kadek Humphris, Tilly Stecher, Issy Mahon and Harry Arceo spoke at the Cowes, San Remo and Inverloch dawn or 11am services today, representing our school with dignity. Our Junior School Captains, Samuel Phillips, Milla Kirkhope and Cecilia Federici also took part in the ANZAC Day services, laying wreaths on behalf of the College at the 11am Cowes ceremony. Brothers James and Mackenzie Cameron lead the parade in Cowes, playing bagpipes and Celtic drum.
We are so incredibly proud of these young leaders representing us with such humility and honour.
The purpose of the vertical House structure is to develop a sense of community within each House. Home Group each morning takes on a new dimension with increased engagement as students in mixed groups of Year 10-12 students and Year 5-8 students have a daily focus cycled through weekend reflection, assembly, academia, wellbeing and fun.
Senior School and Middle School have House based Leadership teams who provide pastoral care for each student in their charge. Contact for each House Leader can be made through SEQTA.

From Sunday 26 July to Friday 7 August, 14 Year 9 female students from our sister school, Ibaraki Christian Junior High School in Japan will visit Newhaven College for the 22nd time. During their two week visit they will experience life in an Australian classroom and visit some of the local attractions organised by Newhaven College. This is an exciting opportunity for our guests as well as the families who kindly offer to host them.
Please consider hosting an Ibaraki student. Host families receive a financial allowance to help cover the cost of billeting a student for their two-week stay. To participate, families need a Working With Children Check and must complete the Child Safety online module.
If you are interested in becoming a homestay family, or if you have any questions, please contact Mitsuko Horiguchi via SEQTA direct message or email mitsuko.horiguchi@newhavencol.vic.edu.au by Thursday 30 April. We would love to hear from you.

Firstly, we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has participated in our charity events so far this year, from buying a cookie at a bake sale to dressing up as a teacher. Every contribution matters. We are very proud to say that so far this year Newhaven College has managed to raise over $5,000 towards our chosen charity, Carries Beanies for Brain Cancer. The sum raised so far is a school wide accomplishment and with some upcoming fundraising opportunities we hope the number will grow as we look to the term ahead.
Carries’ beanies are now on sale for $20 each! The green beanies with a furry pom-pom can be purchased from the Year 12 House Captains. We encourage everyone to wear them, especially as we approach the colder months. The beanies can be worn outside, but not in class.
All Year 12s should keep in mind the upcoming Year 12 and Staff Trivia Night being held on Friday 19 June. We hope to see our whole cohort in attendance with their best game faces.
Donations to Carrie's Beanies for Brain Cancer are welcome at any time via our own fundraising page.
Once again, thank you everyone for such a great year so far. Let’s keep it up!
