Last Thursday 30 April, Newhaven College students travelled to Casey Fields to compete in the annual SEISA Athletics Carnival, and what a fantastic day it was for our team.
A major highlight came right at the end of the carnival, with both our Year 12 relay teams producing incredible performances to win their events. The valuable points earned in those relays helped secure an impressive overall 2nd place finish for Newhaven College in a tightly contested carnival.
Another standout achievement was Tijian Coldora being awarded Age Champion after an exceptional individual performance across multiple events. This was a well deserved recognition of Tijian’s hard work.
Congratulations to all students and staff involved for contributing to such a successful day for Newhaven College athletics.

Term 2 started with a bang, with Years 5-12 House Athletics happening on Day1. The weather was absolutely stunning and students dressed up in their team colours to support their team mates.
Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who helped make this such a wonderful day, and to the parents who came along to watch!
On Monday 27 April 2026, Newhaven College proudly hosted the Year 3–6 Primary School District Athletics Carnival at our school grounds. With clear skies, great sportsmanship and plenty of energy, it was a fantastic day of competition and participation for all ten schools involved.
A huge congratulations to Ms Moed, whose outstanding organisation and leadership as District Coordinator ensured the event ran smoothly from start to finish. Her hard work behind the scenes was clearly reflected in the success of the day.
Newhaven College students achieved some excellent results throughout the carnival. Fletcher Hennessey and Austin Lynch both impressed with strong wins in middle distance events, while Eden Hallas had a standout day with top placings across multiple events. In the field, Nate Regnier recorded strong performances, and Imogen Rule and Milla Kirkhope achieved podium finishes in their respective age groups.
Our younger athletes also shone, with students such as Yuri Chaseling, Patrick Harris, Harvey Onley and Elizaveta Naletova‑Blackwell securing top-three placings, showing great promise for the future.
Well done to all students who competed, and thank you to staff, officials and volunteers who helped make the day such a success. We look forward to cheering on our qualifiers at the next stage of competition.

In the early part of the recent Autumn Holidays, the Newhaven Equestrian Team got together for their first training day for 2026. Surprisingly, the day dawned bright and sunny without a hint of rain or wind, which is the usual for days such as these.
Classes comprised of dressage or flat riding in the morning, followed by show jumping and cross-country riding in the afternoon. Our coach for the day was the highly qualified and successful show-jumping rider, Cindy Morrison. Riders were introduced to fun and logical ways to help their horses transition through the gaits in the morning while maintaining a steady and balanced frame. The morning lessons supported riders as they rode over obstacles in the show-jumping ring and then onto cross-country in the afternoon.
Riders and their mounts improved in all areas of their riding over the day, with lots of laughs and congratulations as combinations cleared jumps and other obstacles that might have been challenging in the past.
Riders who own their own horses and are riding independently and are keen to join in the Newhaven College Equestrian Team activities should contact Mrs Price for more information on training dates, upcoming competitions and events.

When we arrived at Traralgon Tennis Centre on Thursday, 30 April, the sun was shining and everyone was ready to play. The marshals introduced themselves and paired us up with our opponents. The event was run as a round-robin, so we had to play six people in total. We automatically advanced to regionals; therefore, there were some really good tennis players there who had earned their spot in the competition.
It was an awesome experience to play against like-minded players and enjoy a challenge. In the end, everyone really enjoyed the day, and we would highly recommend it to anyone who likes playing tennis.

As the clouds covered the sun from hurting our eyes, the warm breeze kept us on our toes. We each played 6 matches that included 1 set of 4 games. I won 1 match: 3 to 4 and lost the rest, but I still had lots of fun.

Round 1 of the AusCycling Victorian Schools Cross Country Series saw a strong showing from Newhaven College, with approximately 24 riders taking on the challenging Dromana course in tough conditions. Wet, muddy and slippery trails tested riders of all levels, with many Newhaven students lining up for their very first race.
Despite the conditions, the day was defined by outstanding camaraderie across all year levels. Riders supported one another on course and cheered each other on from the sidelines, reflecting the strong team culture within the MTB Academy.
Leading the results was Evelyn McCabe, who delivered an impressive ride to secure 2nd place in the Under 13 Girls Novice category. Not far behind, Austin Mitchell also claimed a 2nd place podium in the Under 13 Boys Novice, continuing his strong form.
There were several other notable performances across the categories. Felix Boyce earned an honourable mention with a fantastic 5th place in the Under 9 Boys Novice. In the Under 11 Boys Novice, Ari Loizou finished 9th, with Charlie McCabe close behind in 10th place. In the senior ranks, Rohan Wilson rode strongly to secure 9th place in the Under 17 Boys.
Round 1 was a fantastic start to the season, particularly for the many new riders gaining valuable race experience in challenging conditions. The resilience and enthusiasm shown by all riders highlights the strength and growth of the Newhaven College MTB Academy.
