The launch of the new Newhaven College video , There’s a Seat Right Here For You, has been a tremendous success, attracting over 5,600 views on YouTube and more than 2,000 views across social media platforms. The support and feedback provided by the College community and further afield have been incredibly positive. We thank everyone who has been in touch with their comments. Here is a sample below:
"One of my family members shared the There’s a Seat Right Here For You video on our family group chat. I just wanted to say it was such a fantastic video, and I think everyone in my family may have watched it 2 or 3 times. The song is so catchy and the video is very fun and entertaining! Newhaven looks like a lovely school, and I am sure my grandpa would have loved to have seen the wonderful video." Annabel Reith, College Founder Peter Reith’s granddaughter, Direct Message
"This is one of the most brilliant ads one could see and certainly one in the great field of education. All those superstars. Nothing is more transformational than education. Congratulations to all at Newhaven College. I have reposted. Congratulations." Dr Peter Collins, Oxford-educated ethicist, former McKinsey consultant, and executive adviser, LinkedIn
"This is absolutely brilliant! Culture of acceptance and belonging as the core message, the best foundation for students to be their best. Bravo Newhaven College!" Grant van der Kruk, CEO Schoolbox, LinkedIn
"The video struck me first by how much work had gone into it, and then by how everyone worked as a team, celebrating their school. I even got teary with the gorgeous preppie singing near the end. My whole family watched it and were amazed. Thank you guys!" Natasha Crestani, College mum, Direct Message
"This is so well done!! The pride these kids have in the school is so wonderful!" Pamela Sellings, Facebook
"This is so well thought out, and very moving! Highlights for me of the students and staff, and the principal getting into it! Brilliant." Nici Cahill, Facebook

On Wednesday 17 June, we were delighted to welcome 35 prospective families to Newhaven College for our College Tour for Term 2. These tours provide a wonderful opportunity for families to meet members of our leadership team and experience the College in action. Everyone was welcomed with morning tea at the Performing Arts Wing by Acting Principal, Karen Milkins-Hendry.
The highlight of the morning was the guided campus tour led by our student leaders from the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools. There is no better way to discover Newhaven College than through the eyes of our students, who proudly shared their experiences and insights with visiting families.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our wonderful student leaders for representing the College so enthusiastically. Our next College Tour will be held on Wednesday 5 August. To register your interest, visit our website.
On Wednesday 3 June, the last day of Reconciliation Week, Newhaven College students, staff, and families gathered once again - despite chilly winds - to walk two laps of the school oval in a powerful show of solidarity and respect for First Nations Peoples. Indigenous students River Hume and Lulu Lightowler welcomed all assembled for this important occasion. A banner, painted by Year 12 Visual Arts Captain, Elsa Osabutey, led the walk.
This year’s theme of ‘All In’ is a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day. Reconciliation and advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights isn’t a passive activity, and it is not solely the responsibility of First Nations people, who have carried the weight of championing, explaining and acting for far too long.
Reconciliation will not happen by itself, and it will not happen without all of us.
Always Was, Always Will Be
On the tail end of our Socceroos beating Türkiye in a fantastic World Cup opener, we celebrated all things World Cup with a fundraising Dress Up Day on 15 June. Everyone got into the spirit of it, and important funds were raised for our 2026 College charity Carrie's Beanies 4 Brain Cancer Foundation .
Seven intrepid Year 10 students, along with David Prideaux, have headed off to Sri Lanka this week for the service program.
Those attending are: Mackenzie Marr, Bede Prideaux, Georgie Sanders, Emma Sorensen, Stephen Spencer, Jayden Stephenson and Alayna Williams.
We wish them all the best and look forward to hearing lots of updates over the next couple of weeks!

As we are nearing the end of Pride Month, it is important for every one of us, in the community or not, to remember what Pride Month is for: equality. We hear this word every day and brush it to the side, thinking our world is good enough, but it’s not, and Pride highlights that. After all, Pride started as a protest for queer people to be seen, heard and respected, and in some parts of the world, even in more 'woke' parts of the world, we as a community still face a massive amount of discrimination. So to everyone who says “Pride is not needed anymore.”, we reply, "Yes it is."
I wish to everyone in the community, whether you’ve known your whole life, have just come out, or are still in the closet or questioning who you are: Happy Pride Month. I hope the rest of the month is filled with joy. Know there are people like you and that you are valid and loved.
Rainbow Haven meets every Gold Wednesday in the Middle School Wellbeing Space. Everyone is welcome to come along. Bring your lunch and join us in a safe, inclusive and welcoming space. For more information about why queer visibility is important, check out this video from Minus8

Planning is well underway for the 2026 Newhaven College Fete, to be held on Friday 20 November from 3.30pm to 7.30pm. The fete is one of the highlights of the school calendar and a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together for an afternoon and evening of fun, food, entertainment and connection.
Vendor bookings are now open for both food and non-food stalls.
We are also beginning our search for corporate sponsors, raffle prizes and silent auction donations. If you own a business, work for an organisation that may be interested in supporting the fete, or can assist with prizes or sponsorship, we would love to hear from you. Sponsorship packages are available and offer a great opportunity to support the school while gaining exposure within the wider community.
