SEISA Junior Girls Soccer Champs
We have had an exciting term of Junior SEISA sports, with every team giving it their all.
The Girls Soccer Team made it to the finals on Thursday, 18 June, and delivered a performance to remember.
From the outset, they faced fierce competition from Beaconhills Berwick, whose defence proved difficult to break down in the first half. Despite numerous valiant attempts on goal, the Beaconhills backline held firm, repelling every effort. Newhaven's own defensive line was equally resolute, maintaining a strong wall and consistently returning the ball to their midfielders and strikers.
With scores level at zero heading into the final minutes, the game seemed destined for a tense finish - until Aylah Strickland and Edie Rowbottom stepped up to deliver. Their late goals sealed an exhilarating victory and rewarded a team effort built on hard work and determination throughout the match.

Year 5/6 Boys District Netball
On Friday 29 May, 17 boys from Years 5 and 6 travelled to Wonthaggi for the District Netball competition. The two teams each played 5 games throughout the day. The A team, competently led by Noah Hollings and Cooper Bennett, played a very tight game for their first game against Bass Valley Primary, going down by one goal. Newhaven College comfortably won the next two games before losing against St Joe's in the fourth game of the day. The final game for the A team was against Cowes Primary School. It was goal for goal with a draw on the final whistle.
The B team were on a high all day, winning every game they played. Thank you to Amy Cattermole for coaching the B team.
Both teams did themselves proud, displaying exceptional sportsmanship along with some incredible netball skills. Every player stood out at different times throughout the day, and they all improved every game.

Year 5/6 Girls District AFLW
Our Year 5/6 Girls AFL team represented Newhaven College with pride at the District AFLW Competition in Wonthaggi on May 29th.
The girls showed outstanding determination and teamwork throughout the day, improving remarkably with every match they played. They competed against Bass Valley, Cowes, St Joseph’s Wonthaggi, Wonthaggi Primary School and Wonthaggi North Primary School, finishing the day with an excellent record of two wins, two losses and one draw.
There were many highlights across the competition. Sage was outstanding in front of goal, while Gabby impressed with her tough and fearless attack on the football. Rose and Tameka were rock-solid in defence, consistently stopping opposition attacks and creating opportunities for their teammates. Evie F also had an excellent day, taking strong marks and delivering effective handballs around the ground.
Most pleasing was the way the girls continued to learn, adapt and improve throughout the day!
A huge thank you to Noah Martin-Endress for coaching the team and providing valuable feedback and guidance throughout the day. His support and expertise were greatly appreciated by the players.

District Soccer
On Friday 12 June, our Newhaven College boys and girls soccer teams travelled to the Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve to compete in the District Soccer competition. Played in beautiful sunshine, both teams demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and teamwork.
A huge thank you to our coaches, Noah Martin-Endress, Elissa Davidson and Stacey Fisher, for generously giving their time and support. We would also like to acknowledge the Wonthaggi Soccer Club for assisting in hosting the event, as well as the student referees who assisted throughout the day.
The girls had an exceptional tournament, narrowly missing out on progressing to the Division Finals. After recording one win and two draws, they missed qualification on a countback, a fantastic effort by the entire team. Special mention goes to Gabrielle Titmarsh for her excellent leadership, Chelsea Chambers for her outstanding goalkeeping and defensive efforts throughout the day, and all players for their hard work and commitment on the field.
The boys faced some very strong opposition and, despite not recording a win, showed incredible resilience, teamwork and positivity in every match. They should be proud of the way they represented Newhaven College.

Primary Regional Cross Country Championships
On Thursday 4 June, a group of Newhaven College students travelled to the Drouin Golf Course to compete in the Regional Cross Country Championships, which highlighted talent across Gippsland. Despite the cold winter conditions, our runners demonstrated outstanding determination.
Congratulations to Patrick Harris (Year 3), Bridget Doig (Year 5), Austin Lynch (Year 5), Noah Hollings (Year 6) and Chelsea Chambers (Year 6), who all represented Newhaven College and gave their very best effort against some of the strongest runners from across the region.
A special congratulations goes to Bridget Doig, who placed 6th in the Under 11 Girls event, and Noah Hollings, who finished 7th in the Under 12/13 Boys event. These fantastic results have earned both students a place at the State Cross Country Championships, to be held on Thursday 16 July at the Yarra Valley Racing Club in Yarra Glen.
We wish Bridget and Noah the very best as they prepare to represent Newhaven College at the State Championships.

Surf Awards
Our partnership with the Woolamai Beach Surf Life Saving Club is truly making waves, and we couldn't be prouder to see such an incredible Newhaven College presence at the recent club awards night! Our Surf, Safety, and Recreation elective is built around inspiring the next generation of lifesavers, but it’s our people on the beaches who really make the magic happen.
Pictured left to right: Ben Clark (Head of Surfing and Middle School Clarke House) took home the Excellence in Lifesaving Award, Kadek Humphris earned the Norm Ritchie Memorial Award plus top honors for senior male volunteer hours, Archer Cameron nabbed Most Improved and top junior male volunteer hours, Chloe Hosking was also celebrated as a Most Improved Member, and Piper O’Brien was recognised as the Most Outstanding Junior Female. Congratulations to all our staff and students for your hard work, dedication, and for representing the College with such spirit.
MTB Academy Round 2 in Lysterfield
The Newhaven College MTB Academy has continued its outstanding 2026 season, with riders producing another impressive performance at Round 2 of the AusCycling Victorian Schools MTB Series at Lysterfield.
Despite freezing temperatures, intermittent showers and a wet course, Academy riders embraced the challenging conditions and once again showcased the determination and resilience that has become a hallmark of the team.
Leading the way was Austin Mitchell, who secured a fantastic 1st place in the Under 13 Boys Novice category. After consistently knocking on the door of a podium finish, Austin’s hard work and dedication paid off with a well-deserved victory.
Academy Captain Hamish Dakers-Hock also delivered an outstanding ride, finishing 3rd in the Under 17 Boys. Hamish looked set for an even stronger result before a mechanical issue on the final lap cost him a position, making his podium finish all the more impressive.
Adding to the celebrations, Felix Boyce claimed 3rd place in the Under 9 Boys, earning the first podium finish of his young mountain biking career and highlighting the exciting talent emerging through the Academy.
Also an honorable mention to Evelyn McCabe, achieving 4th place in the Under 13 Girls.
The performances at Lysterfield reflect the strength, sportsmanship and team culture that continues to grow within the Newhaven College MTB Academy. Riders supported one another throughout the day and proudly represented the College both on and off the course.
Congratulations to Austin, Hamish and Felix on their fantastic achievements. The Academy now looks ahead to the next round in Ballarat, eager to build on an excellent start to the season.
Round 3 AusCycling series - Ballarat
Cold temperatures, drizzle and a smaller-than-usual field couldn’t dampen the spirits of the Newhaven College MTB Academy, with three riders producing outstanding results at Round 3 of the AusCycling Cross Country Series in Ballarat.
Competing on a wet and slow course, our riders showed resilience, determination and sportsmanship in challenging conditions.
Felix Boyce continued his impressive season, claiming the top step of the podium with a fantastic victory in the Under 9 Boys division. His confidence and skill continue to grow with every race.
Austin Mitchell maintained his excellent form in the Under 13 Boys category, securing a well-earned second place and reinforcing his reputation as one of the series’ most consistent competitors.
Academy Captain Hamish Dakers-Hock also delivered a strong performance, finishing fourth in the highly competitive Under 17 Boys division.
The Newhaven College MTB Academy is incredibly proud of the commitment and perseverance shown by all three riders. Their achievements are a reflection of the hard work they put into training and the supportive culture within the Academy.
We congratulate Felix, Austin and Hamish on their outstanding efforts and wish them all the best as they prepare for Round 4 at Haunted Hills along with the rest of the team.
Volleyball Country Championships
Newhaven College students Georgia Mills (Year 11) and Yasmin Gloria (Year 10) have enjoyed outstanding success at the 2026 Volleyball Victoria Country Championships in Bendigo, helping South Gippsland Volleyball Club secure a bronze medal in the Division 3 Women’s competition.
Competing against some of Victoria’s strongest regional teams over the King’s Birthday long weekend, both students played important roles in their team’s success.
Yasmin’s exceptional tournament was recognised with two individual honours, being named Division 3 Women’s MVP and Best Libero, acknowledging her as the competition’s leading defensive player.
Congratulations to Georgia and Yasmin on their achievements and for representing South Gippsland Volleyball Club with skill, determination and sportsmanship.
