A very warm welcome back to all our students, families, and staff as we begin Term 2. This term promises to be filled with exciting learning opportunities, special events, and moments of community connection. I hope everyone enjoyed a restful break and is ready for the wonderful experiences ahead.
Mother’s Day Wishes
As Mother’s Day approaches, we take a moment to celebrate and honour the incredible mothers, grandmothers, aunties, and special women in our community. Your love, guidance, and unwavering support shape our children’s lives in countless meaningful ways every day.
At Wednesday’s Junior School Assembly, our Year 1 students spoke from the heart, sharing why they love their mums so much, accompanied by heartfelt pictures. Their presentations were filled with mentions of cuddles, hugs, delicious cooking, care, and endless love. One child described their mum as the “best living thing in the world,” while another had us all laughing with, “I love my mum because she makes lots of money!”
We wish all our mums and special carers a happy Mother’s Day, filled with love, gratitude, and plenty of well-deserved appreciation.
Class Representatives – Building Our Community
Our Class Representatives (Class Reps) play a vital role in bringing the Newhaven College family community together through a variety of planned social events outside of school hours. These gatherings are organised by our Class Reps and provide a fantastic opportunity for year level families to connect, share experiences, and build supportive relationships. This sense of community enriches not only our children’s school experience but also strengthens the network of support among parents.
Class Reps are currently organising one event per term, and we warmly encourage new families to get involved. Each year level has a dedicated WhatsApp group to facilitate communication. If you have not yet joined your year level’s WhatsApp group, please contact Dearne at JS reception and she will assist you.
A sincere thank you to our 2025 Class Reps for their dedication to fostering a welcoming and connected community.

Cath Huther
Head of Junior School
Last week, we welcomed a number of prospective families to our Prep Information Morning. After an introduction from our Admissions Officer, Bec Anderson, Principal Tony Corr welcomed the group. Head of Junior School Cath Huther spoke passionately about our Prep program, and how it flows through a student's entire school journey.
The highlight for all in attendance was when Mum of Year 2 student Arki and Prep student Benji, Kyoko Blondel spoke to the group. She spoke passionately about her road to discovering the wonders of Newhaven College and how being embraced by the College community cemented her decision to bring the family permanently to Phillip Island.
We sincerely thank Kyoko for her enthusiastic words!
The next College Tour, Wednesday 18 June if you know of anyone who may be interested in exploring Newhaven College. Go to our website to book.
On Wednesday, 30 April, our Year 1 students had the wonderful opportunity to step back in time during the Then and Now Experience. As part of their history unit, students welcomed grandparents, parents, and special friends into the classroom to share stories from their own childhoods. The room buzzed with curiosity as students listened to tales of favourite toys, family holidays, and games from the past, and explored fascinating artifacts like vintage cameras and old coins.
The Year 1 students asked questions and were amazed by stories about what it was like being a child last century. Especially when they were told children didn't have TVs and had to hand wash the dishes! Arabella's Nonna, Rosa shared stories of growing up in Italy, Winsley and Huntley's grandmother spoke about her Greek heritage and Eva's family friend John shared many interesting artifacts and stories about growing up in Fiji.
Thank you to all who shared their memories and made history come alive for our students.

Year 1 Teachers
On a sunny Friday 2 May, many of our Junior School students chose to participate in a paper plane competition, initiated by Year 4 student Jude Thompson. With help from Odin Jamieson in Year 2, Jude planned, advertised and judged the competition. We were thrilled to have so many children enter and thank their families for supporting Jude‘s leadership.
Our two winners for the longest throw were Joey Leary and Ari Loizou and, amongst some very strong entries, Maverick Steel took out the prize for most creative plane. Jude chose to donate the proceeds of the competition to the Phillip Island Community and Learning Centre, and we are proud to announce that $122 was raised!
We congratulate Jude for his initiative and for providing a fun lunchtime activity for our students.
