I hope all Newhaven families have had a smooth start to Term Two.

Xanadu – A Great Success

I would like to congratulate all those who were part of the successful production of Xanadu at the Wonthaggi Arts Centre. It was wonderful to see so many of our school community flock to this event with full houses at each of the four performances. Our annual College musical is always a cultural highlight of our school year and this year’s was no exception. All aspects of the production were first class from the lighting, sound, sets, costume and, of course, our remarkably talented students. My special thanks to Matt Goss as Musical Director and to Director Karen Milkins-Hendry. The school are very fortunate to have such talented and experienced staff to lead this production. Go to the Visual and Performing Arts section of this email for lots of photos.

Athletics

Last week was a busy week of athletics for our school. On Wednesday, Newhaven hosted the District Primary Athletics Carnival for students in Grades 3 to 6 with ten participating schools and over 350 participants – plus many more in the crowd! Well done to all our competitors and a special congratulations to our Primary Sport Co-ordinator, Jackie Clark, who did much of the organising of this major inter-school event.

Last Thursday, our Athletics team travelled to Casey Fields for the annual SEISA Athletics. After winning the carnival in 2023 and 2024 we were looking at a three-peat only to fall just short for a more than respectable runners up placing. Once again we had some outstanding achievements on the day. Congratulations to the following students who were Age Group Champions:

U13 Male:  Tijian Coldora

U 17 Female:  Savannah O’Keeffe

U17 Male:  Froley Anderson

U21 Female:  Lara Smyth

U21 Male:  Lucas Allen

Watching the athletes compete, the very high standard of competition was noticeable with many records being set. Congratulations to St Paul’s Grammar on being overall champions.

ANZAC Day

In addition to our own school ANZAC ceremony Newhaven College was once again honoured to participate prominently in our local community and RSL ANZAC Day services across Bass Coast. In addition to addresses given by our School Captains Grace Howlett, Abby Pappas, Isaac Savona and Gabe Di Falco, our Junior School Captains presented a wreath. In the days following, a number of members of the public contacted me to let me know how impressed they were by our students and the contribution they made to such an important occasion.

Mother’s Day

On behalf of the school I would like to wish all of our Newhaven mums a wonderful Mother’s Day on Sunday. I hope you have a chance to spend time with family and loved ones.
