SEISA Athletics Carnival

On Thursday last week, students took part in the Annual SEISA Athletics Carnival under perfect weather conditions. It was a busy and successful day, with many students earning ribbons across a range of events.

Newhaven College finished 2nd overall, a strong result that reflects the efforts and commitment of all our athletes. The carnival finished strongly with wins in the final four relays: U17 Boys, U17 Girls, U21 Boys, and U21 Girls.

Congratulations to our Age Group Champions:

  • U13 Male – Tijian Coldora
  • U17 Female – Savannah O’Keeffe
  • U17 Male – Froley Anderson
  • U21 Female – Lara Smyth
  • U21 Male – Lucas Allen

A special mention goes to Dae Anderson, who set a new SEISA record in the U12 High Jump, clearing 1.35m and breaking the previous record (set in 2013) by 5cm.

Well done to all students who competed. It’s always an enjoyable day for both students and staff, and we look forward to another great event next year.

District Athletics Carnival

On Wednesday, 30 April, our Year 3-6 athletics team took part in the District Athletics Carnival right here at Newhaven College, and what an amazing day it was. Our athletes gave it their all across a variety of track and field events, and the results were incredible.

The competition was tough, but our students rose to the occasion, showing off some fantastic skills. Whether it was sprinting, jumping, throwing, or relaying, everyone gave their best effort. It definitely paid off, with many students progressing to the Division championships, which will be held in September. All students in Years 4-6 who placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd will progress to Division level. For our Year 3 students, it was an awesome opportunity to showcase their skills.

Thank you to the staff and students for their assistance on the day.

SEISA Swimming Term 1 at MSAC

On the final day of Term 1, a team of enthusiastic Newhaven College swimmers competed at the SEISA Swimming Carnival held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC). It was fantastic to see the positive attitude and determination of all our swimmers, many of whom stepped up to swim in events outside their age group to support the team.

It was a successful and exciting day in the pool, with Newhaven College placing second overall behind the combined team from Warragul and Traralgon St Paul’s schools. A special congratulations goes to our four Age Group Champions:

  • Male U12 – Ethan Lynch
  • Male U13 – Archie Smyth
  • Male U15 – Aidan Smyth
  • Female U21 – Lara Smyth

We also celebrated some outstanding individual achievements with four new SEISA records set by Archie Smyth and Isabella Lynch:

  • M U13 50m Freestyle – Archie Smyth (NC) 26.51
    Previous Record: 27.63 – Alex A Tsebelis (STP, 2013)
  • M U13 50m Backstroke – Archie Smyth (NC) 29.34
    Previous Record: 32.81 – Alex A Tsebelis (STP, 2013)
  • F U14 50m Breaststroke – Isabella Lynch (NC) 37.02
    Previous Record: 37.44 – Sofia S Hogg (BCB, 2020)
  • M U13 100m Freestyle – Archie Smyth (NC) 59.96

Beyond the impressive results, the spirit of the team stood out. The students cheered each other on with enthusiasm, demonstrated great sportsmanship, and supported one another throughout the day making the event a memorable one.

Edie's Soccer Win

Congratulations Edie Rowbottom on her team's incredible win in the U13s Junior Girls event at the Macca’s City Cup 2025.

Edie is a talented and versatile player, able to slot into multiple positions on the field, making her a highly valued member of her team.

This year’s Macca’s City Cup was the largest junior tournament in the Southern Hemisphere, featuring over 370 teams, 4,000 participants, and 900 games played across age groups from U7s to U16s.

The competition was intense, with many close matches decided by penalty shootouts, including the semi-finals and finals, where Edie’s team, representing Melbourne City, claimed victory over Keilor Park in a thrilling finish.

With the season now underway, Edie is showing her dedication by training four nights a week. The team often hosts special training sessions and events featuring guests from the Matildas, further inspiring players like Edie.

Well done, Edie – what a fantastic achievement.
